Dr. Neuger’s unique combination of Hypnotherapy, EMDR, and Cognitive Behavioral interventions has proven to be very effective in helping people heal emotionally from different anxiety disorders including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), phobias (like fear of public speaking and test anxiety), Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Agoraphobia and more.
Hypnosis
There is a long history of hypnosis in the treatment of anxiety. Hypnosis enjoyed a resurgence of interest and use in treatment after World War II and the high incidence of what was called “Battle Fatigue” (what we now call PTSD). Hypnosis was found to be very helpful in the treatment of PTSD and it continues to be very helpful. In fact, research has shown that people diagnosed with PTSD tend to score higher on tests of hypnotizability than the normal peopulation, so those diagnosed with PTSD tend to respond well to hypnotherapeutic interventions.
Dr. Neuger can use hypnosis to help you explore and resolve the roots of your anxiety, reduce your anxiety symptoms, and cope more effectively with any remaining symptoms.
Dr. Neuger uses hypnosis in combination with EMDR and Cognitive Behavioral approaches to potentiate (increase the effect of) these other approaches.
EMDR
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprogramming) is a relatively new treatment in the sense that it was developed in the 1980’s, yet there is already a very large body of research supporting the effectiveness of EMDR in the treatment of a variety of psychological/emotional disorders. In fact, one of the original studies supporting the effectiveness of EMDR in the treatment of PTSD was conducted in Colorado Springs by researchers who used one of Dr. Neuger’s offices to run their study. The greatest amount of study on EMDR has been in the treatment of trauma. To the extent that your anxiety stems from a trauma or a series of traumatic experiences, EMDR can be helpful in the treatment of your anxiety.
Hypnosis and EMDR Combined
There are several providers who do hypnotherapy, and many who do EMDR, but there are very few who combine the two into one treatment approach as Dr. Neuger does. This approach has proven to be very effective in helping people with anxiety who have been in treatment previously but who did not enjoy the success they had been hoping for.
Cognitive Behavioral Techniques
This therapeutic approach is based on the assumption that it is our thoughts and beliefs that lead to emotions and behaviors. By targeting self defeating beliefs and altering those beliefs, we can create change in the related emotions and behaviors. Dr. Neuger has consistently found that combining cognitive behavioral techniques with hypnotherapy has proven to be very effective in helping people with anxiety disorders.
